Shear line, LPA extension to bring scattered rains over eastern parts of Visayas, Mindanao

The low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao left the country's area of responsibility on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7, but its trough or extension may still bring scattered rains over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Weather specialist Ana Clauren said the trough or extension of the LPA, as well as the shear line, may cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Davao Oriental within 24 hours.

Those in areas affected by the LPA's trough and shear line were asked to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides, especially in the event of moderate to heavy rains.

PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may also continue to bring light rains over Aurora, northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the rest of Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

However, it warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
