Scattered rains, thunderstorms over E. Visayas, Caraga, Davao due to LPA, shear line

The low pressure area (LPA) and shear line may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA was estimated at 1,055 kilometers east of Mindanao at around 3 a.m.

The LPA remains less likely to become a tropical cyclone within 36 hours, however, PAGASA will continue to monitor this weather disturbance, Castañeda said.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

Those in areas affected by the LPA and shear line were asked to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides, especially in the event of moderate to heavy rains.

PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may also continue to bring light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the rest of Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

However, it warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
