PDP-Laban continues to support Go amid withdrawal talk--Nograles

A Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) official said Tuesday, Dec. 7 that the ruling political party continues to "support the advocacy" of Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go.

"Sa panig ng (On the part of) PDP-Laban, we have always been supportive of Senator Bong Go in his quest to be of service to the people," Cabinet Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said in a virtual press conference.

Nograles also fucntions as PDP-Laban executive vice president.

Political observers are waiting on the next move of Go, who late last month announced that he would withdraw his presidential bid in the May 2022 polls. However, the rookie lawmaker has yet to go to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to make his withdrawal official.

"So kami po ay irerespeto po namin ano man ang magiging desisyon ni Senator Bong Go (As for us, we will respect whatever decision Senator Bong Go will arrive at) especially in support of his advocacy to serve the Filipino...patuloy ang suporta ng PDP-Laban sa kanya (PDP-Laban will continue to support him)," Nograles said.

Due to his closeness with President Duterte, Go had been viewed as the de facto administration candidate in next year year's presidential contest.

This is despite the latter declaring his Palace bid not with PDP-Laban, but with the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan or PDDS. Duterte chairs PDP-Laban.

Nograles was asked in the presser whether or not PDP-Laban was exerting a last ditch effort to convince Go to run for president, but instead gave the above unresponsive reply.

Interestingly, Duterte, Go, and Nograles were all physically together during Monday night's "Talk to the People" public briefing.

The Chief Executive said last week that he respected Go's decision not to run in 2022.
