LPA, shear line may bring rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao

A low pressure area (LPA) that has developed east of Davao City on Monday afternoon, Dec. 6, may bring scattered light to heavy rains over most of Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA was estimated 735 kilometers east of Davao City at 3 p.m., Monday.

Weather specialist Ana Clauren said the LPA is not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone as it may dissipate within two days.

Although it may not develop into a cyclone, Clauren said the combined effects of the LPA and shear line may cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, and Bohol in the next 24 hours.

Those in areas affected by the LPA and shear line were asked to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides, especially in the event of moderate to heavy rains.

PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may also continue to bring light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the rest of Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

However, it warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
