Comelec says PLs denied registration may avail of legal remedies

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said party-list groups denied registration may avail of legal remedies.

"There are legal remedies for this. Rallying in the streets is probably not a legal remedy," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing in Manila on Monday, Dec. 6.

"I am sure they have counsels and they can pursue these remedies. They should if they feel aggrieved. If they feel that we have shortcomings, then they should file the necessary pleadings," he added.

Jimenez said securing a status quo ante order (SQAO) from the Supreme Court would be the proper remedy.

On Monday, the Nurses United and Guardians gathered outside the Comelec office in Intramuros to protest the decision of the poll body denying the motions for reconsideration of their petitions for registration.

This means they will not be included in the raffle to determine the order of listing in the official ballots that the Comelec will conduct on Dec. 10.

Jimenez, however, said that those that can secure SQAOs will be put at the end of the line if it comes after the raffle.

"They will be added at the end and will be listed alphabetically," he said.
