Ateneo warns public of scam using its name, logo

The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) warned the public of a scam using the name and logo of the University.

In an advisory, AdMU said the scam invites students by email or messaging application to participate in a song cover or research competition, supposedly organized by the University in cooperation with professional volleyball players who are its alumni.

"The University did not organize these competitions and did not authorize any of its employees or representatives to make any such representations," its advisory read.

"The professional volleyball players who are University alumni also did not organize these competitions and did not authorize any of their representatives to make any such representations," it further read.

According to AdMU, the winners of the competition are promised a brand-new car, a scholarship, a supply of Ateneo products, such as shirts and sports apparel, and cash.

The University said the application process requires the submission of the student's ID, birth certificate, marriage certificate of the student's parents, and other documents supposedly required for passport application and for contract signing with AdMU.

AdMU encouraged individuals who were victimized by the scam to report to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group at [email protected] or the nearest police station.
