At 20.2°C, Metro Manila records coldest morning yet this 'amihan' season

Metro Manila recorded its lowest air temperature yet this 2021-2022 northeast monsoon or "amihan" season on Monday, Dec. 6, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The air temperature was recorded at 20.2 degrees Celsius (°C) at 6:10 a.m. in the PAGASA's Science Garden monitoring station in Quezon City.

It surpassed the 20.4°C air temperature on Sunday, Dec. 5.

PAGASA said the top 10 stations that recorded the lowest air temperatures on Monday morning were:

Baguio City (12.4℃)

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (18.0°C)

Malaybalay, Bukidnon (18.4°C)

Casiguran, Aurora (18.6°C)

Basco, Batanes (18.8℃)

Tanay, Rizal (18.8℃)

Abucay, Bataan (19.6°C)

Clark, Pampanga (19.9°C)

Subic, Zambales (20.0°C)

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (20.0°C)

The lowest temperature ever recorded in Baguio City was 6.3℃ on Jan. 18, 1961, while it was registered twice in Metro Manila, on Feb. 4, 1987, and Dec. 30, 1988, at 15.1 degrees Celsius.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may bring light rains and colder weather over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and the Visayas may also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.
