PNP official drowns in Surigao del Sur beach

A 54-year old police colonel drowned during a family excursion in Surigao del Sur on Saturday. Dec. 4.

Police Col. Rhoderic Alba, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said Police Col. Francisco Dungo drowned after he was repeatedly swept with strong waves in Marihatag town of Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning.

Dungo, he said, was assigned to the PNP National Headquarters and a resident of Libertad, Butuan City.

Dungo was swimming with his family and fellow church members in the beach fronting the family-owned resort in Purok Mutya, Barangay Arorogan in Marihatag town when the incient occurred.

“An investigation report from the Marihatag Municipal Police Station revealed that Dungo was swimming in the deeper part when he was swept by tidal current and breaking waves causing him to drown,” the report reaching Camp Crame read.

“Local surfers recovered his body and immediately performed CPR, he was later evacuated to the hospital where further attempts to revive him failed,” it added.

“The PNP is saddened by the untimely demise of Police Colonel Dungo, a hardworking officer who has dedicated himself to a full-time career in the police service,” said PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos.

“We join his family in prayer and mourning over his passing,” he added.

Dungo was pronounced dead by doctors at the Marihatag District Hospital due to asphyxia secondary to drowning.
