Luzon, eastern portion of VisMin to see some rains due to 'amihan', shear line

Some rains could be seen over Luzon and eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours due to the prevalence of the northeast monsoon and shear line in the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 5.

Cloudy skies with light rains could prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands due to the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan."

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Western Visayas could also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.

The shear line, also known as the tail-end of the frontal system, could bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Oriental.

PAGASA advised those in areas affected by the shear line to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides, especially in the event of moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorm activities may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
