San Juan City starts administering COVID-19 booster shots to general adult population

The San Juan City local government started administering on Saturday, Dec. 4, COVID-19 booster shots to all persons with comorbidities, essential workers, and indigent population amid the threat of the Omicron variant, which is said to be more transmissible than the Delta variant.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora led the rollout of the booster shots at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Residents who received their second dose of any vaccine brand six months ago are now eligible to get their booster shots, while those who received Janssen at least three months ago may also register and receive the booster jabs.

“This roll out will be of great help to San Juaneños. As we vaccinate more people, our cases keep getting lower and we can see that in our active cases. As of yesterday, December 3, 2021, San Juan only has 16 active cases. This is the lowest number of cases we have recorded since March 2020,” Zamora said.

“We welcome this progress because more and more people are going out and we need to protect them from the virus, especially now that a new variant has emerged,” he added.

Residents who wish to get their booster shots can register to the city’s online vaccination portal and wait for their schedule that will be sent via text message from SanJuanCity.

On Dec. 2, the Department of Health (DOH) authorized the rollout of coronavirus booster shots for everyone aged 18 and older, opening up eligibility to millions of more fully vaccinated adults.

The announcement came a day after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency approval to Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca to be used as an additional dose.
