A man who received two doses of different brands of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine in just one day in Zamboanga City last November did not experience an "untoward effect" so far, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Saturday, Dec. 4.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the health status of the Zamboanga resident is being monitored.

“Itong report na pong ito ay nakarating sa amin. The individual is currently being monitored pero hanggang sa ngayon naman po wala naman pong nairi-report sa atin na nagkaroon ng untoward effect (This report has reached us. The individual is currently being monitored but so far, we have yet to receive a report that there has been an untoward effect),” she said.

It was reported that the 42-year-old man was injected with Sinovac and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines last Nov. 16 in Sitio Susuna in Barangay La Paz.

Asked what are the possible reactions an individual might experience with regards to this, Vergeire said “we are still looking at the common reactions from the vaccines.”

“Common po na mga reaksiyon natin na sumasakit ang ulo, tumataas ang presyon o kaya ay masakit sa vaccination site – iyan po (Common reactions include headache, high blood pressure or pain at the vaccination site),” she said.

“Bukod po doon, wala naman po talagang kumpleto pang ebidensiya para makapagbigay sa atin na kapag tayo ay nag-mix-and-match, kung anong reaksiyon ang mangyayari kaya po patuloy nating minu-monitor ang ating kababayan na iyan (Besides that, there is really no complete evidence to give us that when we mix-and-match vaccines--- what reaction will occur. So, we continue to monitor this person),” she added.

Reminders to LGUs

Vergeire reminded the local government units and personnel manning the vaccination sites to be “cautious” in administering vaccines.

There should be separate lanes for those who will receive their first, second, or booster dose, said Vergeire.

“Nananawagan po kami sa ating mga local governments and vaccination sites, maging cautious po tayo na sana po magkaroon po tayo ng specific lanes for each type of vaccination na gagawin po natin para hindi po tayo nagkakaroon ng errors at hindi rin po nagkakaroon ng pag-aagam-agam ang ating mga kababayan (We call on our local governments and vaccination sites, let's be cautious. We should have specific lanes for each type of vaccination that we will do in order to avoid committing errors and not to cause worry on our citizens),” she said.
