Gong Yoo's official Instagram account reaches 1.9 million followers

Korean actor and “Squid Game” and “Train to Busan” star Gong Yoo’s official Instagram account has reached 1.9 million in three days.

His agency, Management Soop, announced the opening of the Instagram account for the 42-year-old actor (@_gongyoo_official_) last Dec. 1.

“Thank you to all the fans who always support Gong Yoo. We opened an official Instagram account to convey the daily life of the actor Gong Yoo to all the fans. Gong Yoo has no other social media and this account is directly managed by Management Soop,” the agency stated.

Fans of the actor are happy that Gong Yoo finally has his social media account despite the fact that it is managed by his agency.

The first post on Gong Yoo’s Instagram account is a squid dish, followed by Gong Yoo wearing a jersey with the name “Gong” and the number “30” written on it.

Gong Yoo made a special appearance on Netflix’s global hit Korean series “Squid Game,” playing a man who recruits contestants and plays ddakji (paper flipping) with them.

On Dec. 2, the account posted a photo of Gong Yoo with the cast of Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series “The Silent Sea.”

The series, which will also star Bae Doona and Lee Joon, will premiere on Dec. 24 on Netflix.

“Set in the year 2075 when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth, this Netflix Series tells the story of an elite team sent on a special mission to an abandoned research base on the moon,” according to Netflix.

The series is based on director Choi Hang-yong’s short film that received acclaim at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival in 2014, Netflix added.

Korean actor Jung Woo-sung is the executive producer of “The Silent Sea,” who said, “I loved the spectacular ideas behind the story. I wanted to be involved in creating a sci-fi series that is uniquely Korean.”

Gong Yoo is one of the most popular Korean stars. His acting credits include “The Coffee Prince,” “Train to Busan” and “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.”
