The northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," will bring slightly colder weather with some light rains over most of Luzon this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saturday, Dec. 4.

Cloudy skies with light monsoon rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and northern Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Likewise, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the average minimum temperatures during December range from 13 degrees Celsius (°C) to 22°C in Northern Luzon; 13°C to 26°C in lowlands Luzon; 10°C to 13°C in mountainous Luzon; 19°C to 25°C in Metro Manila; 20°C to 25°C in lowlands Visayas; 19°C to 24°C in lowlands Mindanao; and 16°C to 17°C in mountainous Mindanao.

For January, minimum temperature ranges will be 12°C to 21°C in Northern Luzon; 15°C to 25°C in lowlands Luzon; 8°C to 12°C in mountainous Luzon; 19°C to 24°C in Metro Manila; 20°C to 25°C in lowlands Visayas; 19°C to 24°C in lowlands Mindanao; and 15°C to 17°C in mountainous Mindanao, Estareja said.

Meanwhile, the trough or extension of a typhoon with the international name "Nyatoh" may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, Davao Region, and the southern portion of Palawan including Kalayaan Islands in the next 24 hours.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Estareja said a low pressure area, located 970 kilometers east of Visayas as of 3 a.m., has formed from the trough typhoon "Nyatoh."

However, he pointed out that the LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone and will most likely dissipate within the next two days.
