Rains, thunderstorms to prevail over VisMin due to shear line – PAGASA

Scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours due to the shear line, also known as the tail-end of frontal system, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Dec. 31.

In a public weather forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the country may experience scattered rains due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

“Ang shear line ay nakakaapekto sa Visayas at Mindanao. Sa araw na ito at sa pagsalubong ng bagong taon, magiging maulan ang ating panahon lalo na sa Visayas at Mindanao (Shear line affects Visayas and Mindanao. On this day and on the New Year’s eve, rain showers may prevail in the Visayas and Mindanao),” said Aurelio.

Residents of Visayas and Mindanao were likewise warned against possible flash floods and landslides due to the moderate to at times heavy rains that the shear line may bring.

Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon may bring cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley, Bicol region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also experience isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Due to the continuous surge of the northeast monsoon, PAGASA reiterated that a gale warning remained hoisted over the country’s seaboards. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts were warned not to venture out due to rough sea conditions. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
