Markki Stroem honored to raise rainbow flag of LGBT community

'My Delivery Gurl'

Actor Markki Stroem has said that it's an honor to carry the rainbow flag of the LGBT community as a symbol of support via the new TV series "My Delivery Gurl," adding that he has no qualms about being typecast in drag roles.

"Siguro naman, I won’t be exactly typecast. But for me, okay lang to do character roles like this. Pero kung papatok ang series na ito, and I hope it will, okay na rin sa akin to be typecast," said Markki during a Zoom press conference for his Cignal TV series which kicks off Jan. 1.

Markki added: "I want to carry the flag for the LGBT community. I want to show na kahit lalaki ka o bakla o lesbian ka, you can wear whatever you want to wear, and you’ll be completely fine.”

In preparing for the role, Markki said: “Una, I have to practice walking in high heels kasi I do my work as delivery gurl in high heels, so naka-heels ako lagi kahit nasa bahay lang ako. I also trained with the two top drag queens in our country. Tinuruan nila ako and I watched a lot of RuPaul’s Drag Race, ‘Paris Is Burning’, a docu on gay communities in New York, and other queer content online.”

On Instagram, Markki wrote: "I have to say, this role was probably one of the hardest I have had to take on, from the 5 layers of stockings, to the corsets, padding and fake lashes. Let alone, waxing my entire body and avoiding the gym for a few weeks. Thank GOD for @carloencisocatu @luningninggerzi @makeupbyphokz @jiagorgeous @daniel.tongol and the rest of the team for helping me breathe life into BIANCA D."

Markki said that "you will laugh, cry and love" with the series. "My Delivery Gurl is a story about a drag queen who ends up delivering packages. This is a heartwarming story of love, family and most of all a colorful story for the LGBTQIA++ community."
