Officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) conducted an inspection of its jails in Metro Manila on Friday, Dec. 31, to check the facilities and living conditions of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
BJMP chief Director Allan Iral reminded his men to ensure that the health and safety protocols are strictly observed inside their manned jail facilities amid the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), specifically with the threat of the omicron variant.
He told his men the importance of practicing discipline within their ranks stressing their sworn duties to impose an equal, fair and unbiased enforcement of the regulations to all the inmates.
“Huwag tayong maging kampante pagdating sa COVID-19 lalo ngayong magpapalit na ang taon (Let us not be complacent with regards to COVID-19 especially with the approaching New Year),’’ Iral noted.
In a dialogue with the BJMP personnel, Iral expressed his full confidence believing that they will continue to attain the zero COVID-19 incident record in the Metro Manila BJMP jail facilities on the first day of 2022.
At present the BJMP jails in the country remain under the red alert status in preparation for any incident during the New Year.
Iral noted that the “paabot’’ system wherein visitors would hand food and other basic needs of the detainees are allowed at present while the communication lines of the PDLs are open through the eDalaw or electronic visitation scheme.
BJMP-NCR Regional Jail Director Luisito Muñoz and other officials accompanied Iral during the inspection. (Chito A. Chavez)
