Villanueva: Government must make sure DMW law is fulfilled down to the last letter
Government must ensure that the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) law - to provide all services needed by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) under one roof -is fulfilled to the last letter.
Senator Joel Villanueva, principal sponsor and author of Senate Bill 2234 that was signed into law today by President Duterte, said the measure must be as good as it is advertised.
‘’More importantly, the DMW shall also continue to work with other agencies of government to ensure that jobs are created locally, and that migration for work will always be an individual's choice and not a necessity,’’ he added.
‘’Today, December 30, the day we honor one of the great Filipinos who lived is made much more significant with the signing of Republic Act 11641 which establishes the Department of Migrant Workers,’’ he said.
‘’Ito pong bagong itatatag na kagawaran ang magsisilbing Bahai ng ating mga overseas Filipino workers na tinagurian nating modern-day heroes (This measure establishing the DMW shall serve as the house of our OFWs who are said to be the country’s modern-day heroes),’’ he emphasized.
‘’Today, we make good of our promise for our OFWs to be treated better, with dignity befitting heroes who have kept the country's economy afloat and their families who stay behind and bear the sacrifice of being apart with their parents and relatives,’’ he said.
