Robredo's Rizal Day message: 'Live out the true meaning of being a Filipino'
Vice President Leni Robredo encouraged the citizenry on Rizal Day to live by the "true meaning of being Filipinos" by responding to the needs of their countrymen" with compassion.

In a statement on the commemoration of the life and works of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, Thursday, Dec. 30, Robredo enjoined the nation to honor the heroism of Rizal by being united and compassionate.
"We are called today to live out the true meaning of being a Filipino, as heralded and written by Rizal: Filipinos who are united, who share in communal responsibility, and who always draw strength from one another; Filipinos who always hold on to hope, because they respond with compassion to the needs of their countrymen," Robredo said.
The vice president, who is a candidate for president, expressed hope that Filipinos will be reminded of Elias’s final words in Noli Me Tangere, "to always welcome the dawn without ever forgetting those who suffered in the dark of night."
"It is in this way that we truly honor the heroism of Dr. Jose Rizal. Once again, I and the entire Office of the Vice President join you in celebration and remembrance," Robredo said who is currently undergoing quarantine.
Robredo went under quarantine after her exposure to a member of her close-in security who tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday night, Dec. 28.
She and some members of her team will be under isolation until early January.
