Muntinlupa City government identifies more beneficiaries of P20-M 'Odette' fund

The Muntinlupa City government has identified more local government units (LGUs) that will benefit from its P20 million financial assistance to areas hit by typhoon “Odette.”

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed Ordinance No. 2021-303 on Dec. 24 allotting P20 million financial assistance to 38 LGUs devastated by the typhoon. Muntinlupa councilors passed the ordinance last Dec. 20 during their regular session.

The allocation will be taken from the Quick Response Fund of the Muntinlupa City government’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) fund.

Under the ordinance, P1 million each will be given to the provincial governments of Dinagat Islands and Siargao in Surigao del Norte.

The remaining 36 LGU beneficiaries that will get P500,000 each were identified by the city government and the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

The 10 LGU beneficiaries chosen by the Muntinlupa City government are Maasin, Leyte; Buenavista, Bohol; Dumanjug and Catmon in Cebu; Bais, Himamaylan and Kabankalan in Negros Oriental; Dumaran, Roxas; and San Vicente in Palawan.

The other LGU beneficiaries identified by the OVP are Burgos, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, Pilar, San Benito, San Isidro, Santa Monica and Socorro in Surigao Del Norte; Basilisa (Rizal), Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo (Albor), Loreto, San Jose and Tubajon in Dinagat; Javier and Baybay in Leyte; Balilihan and Tubigon in Bohol; Dalaguete, Tuburan and Argao in Cebu; and Manjuyod, Hinobaan, and Ilog in Negros Oriental.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Dec. 28 that 397 persons were reported dead due to typhoon “Odette” with 1,147 injured and 87 missing.

A total of 6,115 barangays and 1.08 million families or 4.23 million individuals were affected by the typhoon.

The NDRRMC placed the damage to agriculture at P5.34 billion and damage to infrastructure at P16.71 billion.
