PH Red Cross exceeds target in national COVID-19 vaccination drive

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said on Thursday, Dec. 2 that it exceeded its initial target of 53,000 doses after it administered more than 83,000 doses during the three-day national vaccination program of the government against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"This is a breakthrough for the PRC. No matter what the circumstances are, we are always first, always ready, and always there, fully involved in going the extra mile to help our fellow countrymen," PRC Chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Sen. Richard Gordon said.

According to PRC Health Services, its initial target to provide 53,000 doses was exceeded after it administered a total of 83,532 doses through the 17 Bakuna Centers, 12 Bakuna Bus, and 25 Bakuna teams.

"We have also mobilized 800 volunteers including doctors, nurses, medical and nursing students for the 3-day nationwide event," added PRC Health Services.

In terms of total number of COVID-19 vaccinations, PRC has administered 606,000 people.

PRC also mentioned that a unique feature of the Red Cross Resbakuna initiative is the commercial buses borrowed by Gordon from the Lina Group of Companies, Victory Liner, and Ceres Liner that are utilized as mobile vaccination clinics. As of December 1, there are now 17 Bakuna buses that reach geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) and far-flung areas that have no access to COVID-19 vaccines.
