PAGASA warns of possible flooding, landslides as shear line brings rains over Visayas, parts of Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Dec. 29, warned against possible flash floods or landslides in the Visayas and northeastern portion of Mindanao due to the prevalence of the shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold winds.
In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the shear line may bring heavy to, at times, intense rains over Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.
Moderate to, at times, heavy rains may also affect the southern part of Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and the rest of Visayas.
"Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are highly likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall," PAGASA warned.
It advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take appropriate actions.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" may bring cloudy skies and light rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, and the rest of Quezon province.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains and thunderstorms.
