CEBU CITY — For this group of residents from northern Cebu, now is the best time to pay it forward.
Some residents of Daanbantayan town, Medellin town and Bogo City recently travelled from Cebu's Fourth District to Mandaue City to deliver relief goods to the victims of Typhoon Odette.
The relief goods included 180 gallons of drinking water, packs of rice and dried fish.
The group was the same persons who experienced not having access to food and water when their areas were badly hit by supertyphoon Yolanda in 2013.
The residents coursed through their aid through the relief assistance program of former Department of Tourism Secretary and Cebu gubernatorial candidate Ace Durano.
"Andam gyud atong organizers sa 4th district mutabang kay sa panahon nga sila naigo sa bagyong Yolanda niadtong tuig 2013, sila ang gitabangan. Ingon sila nga ''karon wala man kaayo mi maapektuhi sa bagyong Odette, kami napud mutabang'' maong nihatud gyud sila ug pila ka gallon nga mainom nga tubig ug relief packs (The organizers from the 4th District were ready to help because at the time when they were hit by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, they were the ones who received much-needed help. They said "now that we were not affected by Typhoon Odette, it is our turn to help" that's why they took the effort to deliver gallons of water and other relief packs," Durano said.
"it was a heartwarming feeling to know people, who are mostly regular workers, and shelled out their own resources and time to share their water and food to the victims of Typhoon Odette," said Durano who met the group when they arrived in Mandaue past 10 p.m. last December 23.
Durano said the proved that in this time of crisis, the "Bayanihan" spirit is still very much alive as the group immediately distributed the water and food to residents in Mandaue.
Meantime, Durano added that more drinking water will be distributed to different towns and cities badly affected by Odette, on top of their ongoing relief goods and other forms of assistance extended to the typhoon victims.
The 5th District's BAKUD party led by Ace's brother, 5th district congressional bet, Red Durano, has also been distributing relief assistance to the district.
