Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso flexes humble Manila roots as he stars in 'Nais Ko' music video

The Manila City mayor presents history with the rap artists Smugglaz and Bassilyo

A man of humble beginnings who dreamed big, that’s the image Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has presented during his early bid as Manila City mayor. Now, he continues to showcase that with his 2022 Presidential run through a rap music video.

Dubbed as “Nais Ko,” a play on the mayor’s famous alias, the rap music video was released on Dec. 28 and takes listeners on a musical and visual journey from his rough Manila upbringing to his aspirations today as the city’s alcalde and a presidential hopeful. A jump from the usual campaign ads, the music video starts with his humble tuyo breakfast before he goes striding in the streets of Tondo, eating fishballs, riding a pedicab, while headbanging to the rap of music artists Smugglaz and Bassilyo. As the song continues, the rappers tackle social issues—from fair chance in education to proper employment—and even takes a jab at the mayor’s version of Marites.

“Sa hirap man ng buhay naabuso, lalo lang tumibay, lumakas, natuto

batang kalye na nangarap landas nya ay mahanap, at maging isang alamat sa tundo,” the lyrics says.

You’ve got to give props to the mayor and the artists as this is one creative way of campaigning, solely based on his followers’ reactions. Currently, the music video has garnered more than 700,000 views with people commending its lyrics and the rappers’ performance.

Pwede, kaya, posible, naman!,” the mayor posts on Facebook.

According to a December poll conducted by Pulse Asia, Mayor Domagoso is tied with Sen. Manny Pacquiao in the third spot as people’s preference as president. In the second spot is Vice President Leni Robredo while former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. dominates the survey.
