88k families affected by typhoon Odette still in evacuation centers -- DSWD

Over 88,000 families or about 354,000 individuals affected by typhoon Odette continue to seek temporary shelter in 1,488 evacuation centers in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Meanwhile, some 67,000 families or 223,000 individuals are still temporarily staying with their relatives or friends in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

The DSWD said that 1.4 million families or 5.3 million individuals were affected by typhoon Odette in 7,017 barangays in Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

Typhoon Odette also damaged 539,077 houses in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga--175,275 of which were totally damaged and 364,982 were partially damaged.

As of Wednesday, at least P180.77 million worth of humanitarian assistance was extended to the affected families.

Of the total assistance, P137,504,863.12 was provided by the DSWD, P42,188,839.95 from local government units, P1,071,775 from non-government organizations, and 12,500 from DSWD's other partners.
