
The Department of Health (DOH) said that two more people sustained injuries related to firecrackers, raising the total number to 25.
“There were two new cases of fireworks-related injuries reported by the sentinel hospitals. As of 6 a.m. of Dec. 29, 2021, a total of 25 fireworks-related injuries reported,” the DOH said.
The DOH noted that the total figure is 108 percent higher compared to the same period last year---which were only 13 cases. However, this is "61 percent lower than the five-year average (92 cases) during the same time period."
The firecrackers that caused the injuries were boga, five-star, piccolo, triangle, whistle bomb, baby rocket, and kwitis.
Based on the DOH data, the age of the victims were between six to 34 years old. Twenty one of them were males.
"Seven cases had blast/burn injury requiring amputation, 13 cases had blast/burn injury not requiring amputation, and six cases had an eye injury," the DOH noted.
"All cases were injuries due to fireworks. There was no fireworks ingestion, stray bullet injury, or death reported," she added.
