Valenzuela City to implement strict bike lane usage starting Jan. 3

The Valenzuela City government on Monday, Dec. 27, announced that the enhanced implemantation of the bike lane usage in MacArthur Highway -- from Malanday to Marulas -- will start on Jan. 3, 2022.

Mayor Rex Gatchalian signed City Ordinance No. 969 on Dec. 6, imposing the guidelines and penalties for violation when using the bike lane which was posted on the city's Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=284994323663060&id=100064574838616

According to the local government, violators will be warned on first offense and fines depending on the violations (ranging from P200 to P500) will be applied on the second offense.

Riders who will be caught should present a valid government-issued identification card or school IDs for students.

The bicycles of those who will not be able to present any IDs will be impounded at the City External Services Office.

They can claim them once they have their IDs and minors should be accompanied by their parents.

It said that there are designated areas for public utility vehicles to load and unload passengers.

Private vehicles who are entering commercial establishments or intersections should use signal lights when passing through the bike lanes.

The bike lane is the city's project to provide a safe and convenient passage for bikers and electric scooter riders traveling along MacArthur Highway.
