Rains to prevail over Visayas, Mindanao due to shear line, ITCZ

(PAGASA)

The shear line and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) are expected to bring rains over Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 28.

Cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms due to the shear line may prevail over Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of heavy to, at times, intense rains.

The ITCZ may also bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over the rest of Mindanao.

PAGASA also advised those in areas affected by the ITCZ to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" may bring cloudy skies and light rains over Bicol region, Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

The amihan may also affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, as these areas may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja on Tuesday morning said the PAGASA is not expecting the formation of a tropical cyclone during the last days of 2021, and even during the first few days of 2022.
