To address the needs of typhoon-hit areas following the recent onslaught of typhoon Odette, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) deployed three medical tents and additional manpower bound for Siargao Island.

“As the country’s premier humanitarian organization, PRC continues to innovate and plan ahead. Every day our volunteers and staff work round the clock as they continue building our capacity for us to best serve our mission: helping our people, especially the most vulnerable,” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard “Dick” Gordon in an official statement issued on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
As part of its mission to help those in need, the humanitarian organization deployed three medical tents bound for Siargao Islands on Monday, Dec. 27.
“The medical tents will provide an additional 30 bed capacity to Siargao District Hospital where they have been managing diarrheal patients. Additionally, the PRC will also send volunteer nurses and a health logistician from PRC Quezon City Chapter,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) previously confirmed the clustering of cases of gastroenteritis and diarrhea in the region. The outbreak was believed to be caused by water contamination following the devastation brought by “Odette.”
PRC said the tents, as well as the additional manpower, are expected to be ferried to Siargao Islands in the next hours. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
