Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso called for the strict observance of health protocols after an increase in active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases was detected in Manila from Saturday, Dec. 25, to Sunday, Dec. 26.
Over the Christmas weekend, a total of 91 active COVID-19 cases were observed on Sunday, Dec. 26, which is an increase of 13 cases compared to the previous 78 on Friday, Dec. 24.
According to Domagoso’s campaign team, granular lockdown was imposed in the following Manila districts which exhibited an increase in COVID-19 infection on Dec. 26 -- Tondo 1 (29 cases), San Andres (12), and Pandacan and Sampaloc, with seven cases each.

“Ang lockdown naman po, katulad ng polisiya ng IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force), kapag medyo nagkakaroon ng konting kapabayaan at lumalago ‘yung COVID infection sa isang lugar, eh normal po na i-lockdown ‘yung isang area (The lockdown policy is similar to the IATF’s policy -- if there is an observed increase in COVID cases in an area, it’s normal to place that area under lockdown). So, we would continue to have those kinds of surgical lockdown kasi ang gusto natin, makapagbukas ang negosyo, makapagtrabaho ang tao, makapag-hanapbuhay, unti-unti tayong mag-normalize (because we want to ensure that businesses can reopen, and people can work until things normalize),” Domagoso told DZRH.
Based on the latest report from the Manila Public Information Office, as of Tuesday, Dec. 28, majority of these cases were detected in the following districts: Tondo 1 --- 31 cases, San Andres -- 11 cases, and Pandacan -- seven cases
“Pero kailangang maging responsable rin tayo. Kailangan magsuot pa rin tayo ng face mask (We need to be responsible. We need to wear a face mask). The mask is a must. ‘Yun lang kailangan natin. Tapos magpabakuna tayo (That’s all we need to do. And we should get vaccinated),” Domagoso said.
