Davao City COVID-19 TF still awaiting guidelines on shortened interval of booster shots

DAVAO CITY — The Davao City COVID-19 Task Force is still awaiting guidelines from the Department of Health (DOH) on the shortened interval of booster shots.

"I've heard about that, but again just like our prior rollouts, we will be waiting for the guidelines that will be coming from our regional Department of Health," said Davao City COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser in a statement on Tuesday.

Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III announced last Dec. 21 that the interval for the administration of booster doses would be shortened effective Dec. 22.

Under the shortened interval, the DOH said, "boosters may already be given to adults at least three months after the second dose of a primary two-dose vaccine, or least two months after the primary single-dose vaccine is given."

At present, Schlosser said the COVID-19 Task Force is following the existing guidelines wherein fully vaccinated adults receive booster shots six months after their second dose.

Schlosser added that they have no update yet on the schedule of the booster shots for the general population.

However, Schlosser said that they have already started giving booster shots to priority groups A1, A2, and A3, including workers in the frontline health services, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.

Schlosser encouraged those who belong to these priority groups to visit the vaccination sites and get inoculated to boost their protection against COVID-19. She added that vaccination hubs are open for walk-ins.
