Shear line, 'amihan' to bring rains over some parts of the country

The shear line, or the tail-end of frontal system, and the northeast monsoon or "amihan," will be the dominant weather systems in the country in the next few days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Dec. 27.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said that tropical cyclone development is less likely in the last week of 2021.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line may prevail over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Aurora, Aklan, Capiz, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

Likewise, cloudy skies with rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon due to the amihan.

Those in areas affected by the shear line and amihan were advised to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Region may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

PAGASA also warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
