Lubao ‘Killer Bus’ incident claims another life


LUBAO, PAMPANGA – Seven people died after a bus slammed into a waiting shed and an electric post after colliding with a tricycle in Barangay San Isidro of this town on Sunday afternoon.

According to Dr. Zenon Ponce of Lubao District Hospital, six of the victims were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital while two others were admitted for treatment.

Five or six other victims were transferred to the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital.

Other victims who sustained minor injuries were immediately treated and later sent home.

The Lubao Municipal Police Station said that one of the victims who were in a critical condition later expired.

The two victims who remained at the Lubao District Hospital recounted that the bus was jam-packed with passengers and traveling at fast speed on the way to San Fernando.

According to a report from the Lubao Municipal Police Station, the Isuzu mini bus "was traveling towards City of San Fernando, Pampanga coming from Bataan direction."

Upon reaching Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay San Isidro, the bus accidentally hit a Rusi motorcycle and ran over the victims at about 4:30 p.m.

Due to the strong impact, the bus slammed into an electric post, hitting other pedestrians.

Bus driver Orlando Balingit, 58, a resident of Magalang, is facing charges of multiple homicide, multiple serious physical injuries and multiple damage to property.
