311,888 people staying in evacuation centers as of Dec. 27— DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Monday, Dec. 27, that over 311,800 people or almost 81,000 families were taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers.

The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) reported that as of 6 a.m., Dec. 27, 311,888 individuals or 80,990 families have been logged as evacuees. They were taking temporary shelter in 1,183 evacuation centers from 10 regions affected by the onslaught of typhoon Odette.

Meanwhile, the number of families who opted to stay with their relatives and friends stood at 65,352 or 211,155 individuals.

The DSWD likewise reported that the number of families affected by the typhoon further increased to 1,158,779 or 4,557,008 individuals from 6,106 barangays.

Based on the DROMIC report, the 10 affected regions were Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos), and Caraga.

The DROMIC reported 405,208 damaged houses due to Odette. Of the number, 127,351 were totally damaged houses and 277,857 were partially damaged.

The DSWD, local government units (LGUs), and non-government organizations (LGUs) have so far extended more than P130.14 million worth of humanitarian assistance to the typhoon victims.
