The international development agency said individuals, who want to help and take part in the ongoing relief operations initiated by USAID, can either donate cash assistance or sign up to be a volunteer.

In a statement, the US Embassy in the Philippines said that donors can "send cash donations to reputable relief organizations working on the ground."

"They can make the most difference and save the most lives," the embassy said.

It added that individuals who want to volunteer may visit https://www.cidi.org/how-to-help/volunteering/.

The US, through USAID, was among the many foreign countries that provided both cash and in-kind assistance to the Philippines after the onslaught of the deadly typhoon.

"USAID is providing food, water, hygiene supplies, and other relief items to help people affected by storm. USAID is also supporting the restoration of water supply services and sanitation facilities, as well as hygiene promotion activities to keep people safe and healthy," the US Embassy said.

It further said that "ahead of the typhoon season, USAID pre-positioned relief supplies in the Philippines which were sent to the affected area immediately after the storm hit--providing shelter for thousands of families."

On Dec. 22, days after the onslaught of typhoon Odette, US Embassy in the Philippines Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) ad interim Heather Variava said that the US, "is providing P10 million in immediate assistance to support communities devastated by Typhoon Odette."
