TACLOBAN CITY - A yet-to-be-known individual from Samar province surrendered several assorted high-powered firearms to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-8) Thursday (December 24).
The firearms are believed to have been used in several killings and shooting incidents in the province. Deputy Director for Administration PBGen Randy Peralta presented the firearms.
He said the firearms were entrusted by someone that he did not disclose yet for security reasons to the person who surrendered them.
The firearms include 3 automatic sub-machine pistol; 3 caliber .45 pistol; and 5 long firearms/rifles.
Peralta said the surrendered firearms will be subjected to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the custody of evidence.
They will be submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory PRO 8 for cross-matching and macro-etching procedures to determine whether they may have been used in some unsolved crimes in Region 8.
"We will be conducting a deeper investigation as to where these firearms came from. The surrenderer wanted to end the use of these firearms by potential private armed groups especially during the coming elections," he disclosed.
