The Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) plans its athletes to resume training next month in anticipation for the 11th ASEAN Para Games.
This development came after Indonesia proposed to take over the hosting duties after Vietnam withdrew due to pandemic concerns, with the Board of Governors expecting to make the final decision also next month.
The PPC deemed it important to continue with the athletes’ training so that they would be ready once the decision on the Games’ schedule are approved and finalized.
PPC president Mike Barredo hopes the para athletes can also use the training facilities at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City and the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila once it becomes available.
Last November, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) approved the training resumption of select national athletes starting Jan. 10.
In a statement, the resumption “is dependent on provision of many considerations for safety before final implementation.
Barredo eyes to extend the para athletes’ successful campaign at the Asian Youth Para Games early this month in Bahrain, where the 12-player PH team went home with one gold, silver and two bronze medals.
