No tropical cyclone is expected to develop and affect the country in the next five days, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Dec 26.

“Base sa ating analysis, mababa ang tiyansa na magkaroon tayo ng bagyo sa susunod na limang araw sa loob ng Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) (Based on our analysis, tropical cyclone formation in PAR is less likely in the next five days) ,” said PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja in a public weather forecast.

However, other weather systems such as the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” and localized thunderstorms may bring isolated rains over the country.

“Patuloy na lumalakas ang northeast monsoon nakakaapekto po ito sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon (The northeast monsoon continues to intensify and it is affecting a large part of Luzon),” Estareja said.

In the next 24 hours, the northeast monsoon may bring cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Bicol region, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, and Quezon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in Visayas and Mindanao.

The State weather bureau likewise reiterated that a gale warning was hoisted in the seabords of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, eastern seaboard of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, and the northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts were advised not to venture out due to rough sea conditions. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
