An earthquake measuring 5.4-magnitude struck off the coast of Davao Occidental at 10:22 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 26.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake was registered 388 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
It was tectonic in origin, which means that it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Meanwhile, in its initial bulletin, the agency said that no reported and instrumental intensities were recorded. However, aftershocks may occur, said Phivolcs. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
