DSWD: Number of 'Odette' evacuees rises to over 313K

The number of people who were staying in evacuation centers following the onslaught of typhoon Odette increased to over 313,000 or more than 79,000 families, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Sunday, Dec. 26.

The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) report showed that as of 6 a.m., Dec. 26, 313,096 individuals or 79,392 families have been logged as evacuees, staying in 1,183 evacuation centers.

The number of families who have opted to stay with their relatives or friends increased to 67,669 or 220,862 individuals.

The DROMIC report noted that the number of families affected by Odette increased to 1,053,157 or 4,137195 individuals from 5,985 barangays.

The affected regions include Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Caraga.

Meanwhile, the DSWD reported 375,904 damaged houses. Of these, 254,568 were partially damaged and 121,336 were totally damaged.

More than P107.7-million worth of humanitarian assistance has been provided by the DSWD, local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) to the families affected by typhoon Odette.

The assistance extended to “Odette”-hit areas totals P107,721,665.08
