DSWD: Almost P119-M worth of humanitarian assistance extended to ‘Odette’-hit areas


Almost P119 million worth of humanitarian assistance has so far been provided to the areas affected by typhoon Odette, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Sunday, Dec. 26.

Citing the report of its Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), more than P118.99 million in aid has been given to Odette-hit areas in 10 regions, as of 6 p.m., Dec. 26.

The assistance was extended by the DSWD, the local government units (LGUs), and non-government organizations (NGOs).

The DROMIC reported 78,260 evacuee-families or 303,002 individuals from 1,180 evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, the number of families who opted to stay with their relatives and friends increased to 65,352 or 211,155 individuals.

The number of affected families from 6,081 barangays rose to more than 1.15 million or over 4.54 million individuals, the report noted.

The DSWD identified 10 affected regions. These are Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos), and Caraga.

The DROMIC report likewise showed that the number of houses damaged due to Odette increased to 405,208. These include 127,351 totally damaged houses and 277,857 partially damaged houses.
