W. Visayas cops on full alert vs NPA for CPP’s 53rd anniversary

ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) is on high alert against the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) as the latter is set to celebrate its 53rd founding anniversary on December 26.

“PRO-6 units will be vigilant and alert,” assured Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson.

Solis told Manila Bulletin that Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, PRO-6, has given instructions to commanders across the region to closely coordinate with the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) in their respective areas.

While no intelligence reports indicate a potential attack, Solis said the police force is not letting their guards down.

This was especially after the NPA suffered eight casualties in an offensive attack staged by government forces in Miag-ao town, Iloilo province last December 1.

“They should be ready in their respective areas and be able to foil or prevent any evil plans of the CPP-NPA,” added Solis.

The vigilance against communist rebels are on top of the responsibility of cops securing peace and order for the holiday season in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
