The country listed 433 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections on Saturday, Dec. 25.
Of the newly detected cases, 404 (93 percent) occurred within the past 14 days or from Dec. 12 to 25, the Department of Health (DOH) noted in its latest case bulletin.
The regions with the highest number of new cases in the said period were Metro Manila with 178 cases, Calabarzon with 41, and Central Luzon with 33.
The Philippines’ total number of confirmed cases since last year rose to 2,838,381.
Of the total, 9,376 cases remain active. The DOH said that 3,430 patients have mild symptoms, 3,337 are in moderate condition, 1,777 are severely ill, 458 are asymptomatic, and 374 are in critical state.
Also, the death toll climbed to 51,187 — or 1.80 percent of the case count — after 137 more people did not survive.
Of the newly recorded deaths, 14 happened this month, 26 in November, 45 in October, 32 in September, 11 in August, five in July, three in June, and one in April.
" due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya. This issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date," the DOH noted.
On the other hand, 369 new patients were tagged as recovered. The figure caused the recovery tally to increase to 2,777,818 — or 97.9 percent of the case total.
