Some 100,000 shoppers troop to garment bazaars in Taytay during Christmas rush

Some 100,000 shoppers trooped to various garment bazaars in Taytay, Rizal to do their Christmas shopping from Dec. 12 to 24.

According to Mayor George Ricardo Gacula II, there were around 8,000 visitors daily in the Garments Capital of the country starting the second week of December.

Garment bazaars, locally referred to as “tiangge”, are located inside the Club Manila East compound in Taytay, Rizal.

Assorted garments, mostly locally made by Taytay garment makers, sell for as low as P35 each or even lower, especially when bought in bulk in the bazaars.

Haggling is usually not allowed since, according to the vendors, the items are already at bargain prices.

Gacula said majority of the locally made garments are bought and sold to markets in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, and abroad.

A day prior to Christmas Eve, most of the bazaars in the town had to extend their operating hours to midnight to accommodate the last-minute shoppers who came all the way from Metro Manila and nearby provinces to shop for bargain clothes.
