On Christmas Eve, 'Odette' death toll climbs to 326 – NDRRMC
The festive mood of Christmas Eve was dampened as the number of Filipinos who died due to typhoon Odette rose to 326, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Friday, Dec. 24.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said 14 cases were already confirmed while 312 were still undergoing validation after Odette ravaged Visayas, Mindanao, and parts of Mimaropa in Southern Luzon more than a week ago. There were also 58 missing persons and 661 others who sustained various injuries.
Most of the fatalities were recorded in Bohol with 96, Negros Oriental had 66 deaths, and Cebu logged 58 deaths.
Surigao del Norte, Southern Leyte, and Dinagat Islands were equally devastated with 27, 22, and 21 deaths, respectively.
In Palawan, 18 people died while Agusan del Sur tallied six deaths. Misamis Oriental also had four deaths, Guimaras had two fatalities, while Bukidnon, Butuan City, Iloilo, Leyte, Misamis Occidental, and Negros Occidental listed one death each.
While many Filipinos will have their noche buena at home in time for Christmas Day, a total of 83,903 families or 352,384 individuals will spend it in evacuation centers. More than 77,000 families or 277,050 individuals also took refuge with their relatives or friends after losing their homes to the storm.
With this, various government agencies continued to bring much-needed relief items for the affected residents. Among those leading the efforts is the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Philippine Navy ships BRP Tarlac (LD601) and BRP Agta (LC290) arrived in Cebu on Friday and Thursday, respectively, as they brought approximately 645 tons of relief goods, other essential items, humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) equipment, and rolling cargoes for typhoon-stricken Cebuanos.
AFP’s Mobile Kitchen also brought hot meals to Cebuanos who were staying in evacuation centers.
BRP Tarlac, a PN landing dock, also brought a 200-man contingent from the Philippine Marine Corps' 9th Marine Battalion to undertake HADR tasks in Visayas.
Meanwhile, BRP Dagupan City (LS551), a PN logistics vessel, arrived in Palawan on Friday as she brought approximately 2,000 family food packs for the typhoon-affected residents of Dumaran Island.
It will proceed to Kalayaan Island Group, the country’s last frontier in the West Philippine Sea, to bring 447 food packs for residents and military personnel.
