DSWD Field Offices keeping 'bayanihan' spirit alive

Other Field Offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have stepped up to augment the food and non-food item supplies of the regions affected by the onslaught of typhoon Odette.

The gesture of the FOs that were spared by "Odette" was an expression of their full support to the country’s ongoing disaster operations.

The DSWD said FO V has initially allocated 11,000 family food packs (FFPs) for Eastern Visayas. Of these food packs, 1,000 were already delivered to FO VIII, while the remaining 10,000 food packs are still in transit.

Meanwhile, Caraga Region benefited from the FO IX’s augmentation support. Some 7,000 FFPs and other non-food items such as 135 blankets, 2,431 bath towels, 309 bed sheets and 2,325 mosquito nets have been delivered to the region on Dec. 19.

A day after, FO XI provided additional support by sending some 8,000 food packs, 3,000 family kits, 2,500 sleeping kits, 1,500 hygiene kits, and 2,000 malongs.

Field Office Caraga also got an additional 1,500 sets of hygiene kits, 1,185 boxes of sleeping kits, and 70 boxes of bottled water from the Field Office XI on Dec. 22.

The FO Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) is providing 1,500 family tents to the affected regions, the DSWD said.

It said to urgently mobilize the resources intended for the typhoon victims, the Field Office Emergency Operations Center has coordinated with the Police Regional Office IV-4, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to assist in loading the family tents to the vehicles provided by the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB).

The Social Welfare department said members of the Regional and Provincial Quick Response Teams have already been advised to be on standby alert status for possible deployment in “Odette”-affected areas.
