Colder days are expected in most parts of Luzon as the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” is expected to gradually intensify in the next few days, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Dec. 24.
“Ang amihan ay unti-unti pong lalakas sa mga susunod na araw kaya asahan natin ang malamig na panahon dito sa Metro Manila pati na rin sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon sa araw ng kapaskuhan (The northeast monsoon will gradually intensify, that’s why we can expect a colder weather condition in Metro Manila and a huge portion of Luzon on Christmas day),” said PAGASA weather specialist Ana Clauren in a public weather forecast.
Meanwhile, Clauren said that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may bring cloudy skies and scattered rainshowers over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Caraga.
Those residing in hazard-prone areas were warned against possible flash floods and landslides that moderate to at times heavy rains may bring.
In the next 24 hours, the northeast monsoon may likewise cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos region.
Furthermore, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.
The State weather bureau said that no weather disturbance is expected to develop or affect the country in the next 24 hours. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
