'Amihan' to bring rainshowers over northern Luzon; ITCZ affects Mindanao

The northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’ will bring rainshowers in extreme northern Luzon while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may affect the southeastern portion of Mindanao, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Dec. 24.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected in Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, those residing in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Davao Oriental were warned against possible flash floods and landslides due to the scattered rain showers and thunderstorms that the ITCZ may bring.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

“Sa kasalukuyan ay wala po tayong mino-monitor na sama ng panahon na maaaring makaapekto sa ating bansa (Currently, we are not monitoring any weather disturbance that may affect our country),” Castañeda said.

The State weather bureau has not issued a gale warning. Small fishing boats and other small sea vessels are allowed to freely venture out into the sea. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
