A young girl in Manila donated her entire savings to help in Odette relief operations being mounted by Manila City officials.
According to Barangay 609 chairman and city councilor Leilani Marie Honrado Lacuna, head of Manila’s relief operations, the young girl is the daughter of a Santa Cruz, Manila barangay chairman.
“Yung lahat ng savings niya eh binigay niya nung nalaman niya na nagbibigay ng tulong ang mga tao sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo. Nakalagay sa Tupperware ang mga barya at perang papel na i-dinonate niya para sa aming relief drive (She gave all of her savings once she learned that donations were being accepted for the typhoon victims. All of her change and paper money were kept inside a tupperware which she gave to the relief drive),” Lacuna said.
Manila city officials are appealing for more donations to the victims of super Typhoon “Odette” with the aim of delivering relief to areas which are still struggling and where aid has not reached them.
Lacuna said the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Norte are still in desperate need of relief goods compared to other typhoon-struck areas.

“Meron kaming contact sa Mindanao, si Ma'am Shey Sakularan (We have a contact in Mindanao, Ma'amm Shey Sakularan) who is a representative for Muslims who said that people in those provinces are in need of cash and goods. Siya po ang nag-identify ng areas sa Mindanao that were also badly affected (She is the one who identified the areas in Mindanao that were badly affected)”, said Lacuna in a press statement.
Manila city councilors and barangay chairmen managed to raise around P 1 million in relief funds last Monday, Dec. 20, P 370,000 of which came straight from the city councilors themselves.
