Eleazar urges SK officials to focus on other youth activities aside from ball games

Senatorial aspirant Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar wants the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) to go out of the realm of sports development to focus on other areas of leadership training that includes being part of the solution to social problems in the country.

In a statement, Eleazar said SKs should take a more active role in other problems affecting the youth that include juvenile delinquency and initiating various community programs.

"Aside from ball games and other sports tournaments, there are a lot of activities where SK could focus on. We should further empower the youth because they are the future leaders of the country," said Eleazar.

He also encouraged local government units (LGUs) to support the youth development activities of the SK in their barangays.

Eleazar shared that he initiated community-based development programs for the youth when he became the chief of the Philippine National Police to address cases of child delinquency.

He said if he wins in the senatorial election, he will improve and strengthen the implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 which seeks to provide proper care, protection, and treatment of juveniles in conflict with law.

Meanwhile, Eleazar also expressed support to the stand of Senator Panfilo Lacson that parents should be held responsible for the criminal offenses that their children commit.

Both Lacson and Eleazar are running under the Partido Reporma, with the former being the party standard bearer. ###
