Clearing operations continue as DPWH works on road restoration
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is continuously clearing major roads that were rendered unusable due to the devastation wrought by typhoon "Odette".
DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said the priority now is on clearing the remaining national roads, including in Palawan, Bohol, Cebu and Dinagat Islands – the hardest-hit areas due to heavy rain and strong winds of the typhoon.
The clearing operations were all based on the reports the office of Mercado received from the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance.
The national roads include Puerto Princesa North Road, Langogan Bridge, Brgy. Langogan, Puerto Princesa City because of a damaged bridge, and Puerto Princesa North Road, Tagburos Bridge II, Puerto Princesa City due to damaged bridge, fallen trees and utility post.
In Bohol, the Balilihan Hanopol-Bayuhan Road was left with debris due to flooding, while the Cebu-Toledo Wharf Road in Talisay City got a clearance after fallen trees and electric posts and debris forced the local officials to close the road.
In Toledo City, the Toledo-Pinamungajan Aloguinsan-Mantalongon Road, Brgy. Cabitoonan, Toledo City was cleared from fallen electrical posts.
In Cebu, the Santander-Barili-Toledo Road, Sariling Bridge in Malabuyoc, and Cabue because of damaged bridges, on intermittent sections in Brgy. Madridejos, Alegria, Cebu due to damaged or collapsed pavement at intermittent sections.
The Dinagat-Loreto Road in Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands was impassable due to road slip.
There are still five roads that remain hardly passable for motorists.
These include the Puerto Princesa North Road, Tanabag Bridge II, Maoyon Bridge, San Rafael Bridge, Concepcion Bridge, Olanguan Bridge, Babuyan Bridge in Puerto Princesa due to damaged bridge approach, fallen trees and utility posts, and debris flow.
Jct. SH Impasug-ong-Patulangan By-Pass Road in Bukidnon due to soil erosion, the Dinagat-Loreto Road, Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands due to fallen trees, the NJR Bah-Bah-Talacogon Road in Brgy, Lucena, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur due to damaged detour road, damaged bailey bridge, flooding, and soil slope collapse, and NRJ Bayugan-Calaitan-Tandag Road in Brgy. Berseba, Bayugan due to road cuts and sinking/collapsed pavement.
